These melt-in-your-mouth old fashioned sugar cookies, aren’t like any other. Tried and true, these cookies are just the right amount of sugar without the need for messy or fancy icing.

Easy Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies are less time consuming overall and require less cleanup afterwards. Unlike traditional sugar cookie dough that has to be refrigerated before then being rolled out, cut out, baked, and iced; these sugar cookies only need to be pressed with sugar on the cookie sheet before baking. So much simpler and you don’t have to block out an entire afternoon to get them done!

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookie Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 4 cups flour

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375F.
  • Thoroughly cream butter, oil, and sugars.
  • Add vanilla & eggs, then sifted dry ingredients and blend well.
  • Use a cookie scoop or use your hands to roll about a tablespoon-sized ball of dough and place onto a cookie sheet. Use a cookie press or bottom of a glass dipped in sugar to press cookie onto sheet.
  • Bake about 12 minutes, a minute more if you likely crunchier cookies, a minute less if you want a little chewier cookie.

Make Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies Festive

Just like traditional sugar cookies can become suited for your every occasion, these old fashioned sugar cookies can also become the perfect holiday treat. By using a cookie press or stamp, you can change up the look of these cookies in an easy way. The image below shows the old fashioned sugar cookies after using a gingerbread man cookie press. (I cannot find one just like what I have, apparently it’s now considered vintage, except on eBay or Etsy, but here’s a link to a heart shaped cookie press to get an idea of what I use.)
